How to choose grips to do Cross Training?

How to choose the best grips for CrossFit?

We give you the keys to get the grips that best suit your level and needs.

What are the streets used for?

CrossFit grips are specialized pieces of X-Training equipment manufactured to improve performance and safety during functional workouts, which often include a variety of diverse, high-intensity exercises.

Main benefits of using PicSil grips:

  • Increased grip strength : PicSil grips provide a more secure grip on equipment such as pull-up bars, kettlebells and weights. This is particularly beneficial during exercises that involve a lot of hand use, such as pull-ups or kettlebell swings, where sweat on your hands can cause slipping.
  • Hand Protection : These grips are designed to protect hands from blisters, calluses and tears, which are common due to repetitive gripping and friction associated with workouts. This can support athletes' performance, allowing them to train more frequently and comfortably.
  • Increased performance : By improving grip from the wrist, athletes can often perform better particularly in barbell exercises. Greater grip stability and reduced forearm tension can improve the ability to do more repetitions or hold the stance for longer in timed workouts.
  • Reduced risk of injury : By providing a protective barrier and better grip, PicSil grips reduce the risk of accidental slips and falls. This safety feature is essential during high-intensity sessions, where the risk of injury is higher.
  • Versatility : PicSil grips are versatile and can be used for various types of exercises beyond bar work, including rope climbing and weight lifting. This makes them an essential accessory for CrossFit routines, ideally using several models depending on the training and surface of each exercise.
  • Greater Focus : With less concern about hand discomfort or slippage, athletes can focus more on their technique and execution of movements, leading to more effective workouts.

The grips are mainly used in sports such asgymnastics ,calisthenics andcrossfit to perform bar and ring movements , such as T2B , Butterfl y , M uscl e Up and T2R.

The handlebars or grips for women or men (there is no distinction by sex) they are very versatile in activities such as crossfit since you can also use them to protect your hands in Olympic lifts that combine a wod , known as weightlifting movements (for this type of movements, the use of weightlifting wristbands is also advisable)

Unlike gloves, grips cover part of the hand, leaving the fingers and the sides of the palm free. This shape allows you to maintain the natural grip of your own hand, to optimize it during exercise.

The objective of the PicSil grips is to minimize the friction of the bar in the most sensitive area of the hands (center of the palm), improve grip in each workout and allow more repetitions in a row to help improve execution time in each wod.

PicSil grips are made of various materials, such as leather or synthetic fabrics, and each offers different levels of comfort, durability and grip. Choosing the right type depends on personal preferences and characteristics and the specific demands of the athlete's regimen, frequency and level of functional training, and we will talk about all of this below.

What should I look for when choosing crossfit grips ?

There are differenttypes of grips to practice CrossFit , with a variety of shapes and materials , but all of them have their structure in common , and all of them are Unisex straps, for women or men without distinction :

- Holes in the upper part to fit the fingers (in the case of grips with holes )

- In the case of grips without holes , ergonomic shape at the end of the fingers for a better grip.

- A smooth and elongated part to protect your palms (with varieties of material and thickness)

- A hypoallergenic and resistant closure on the end to immobilize the wrist

In some models of PicSil grips , foam to protect rings from rubbing (e.g. Phoenix and Hawk )

Regarding the material, shape, number of holes and other characteristics, in the streets PicSil we have studied the issue in depth to manufacture The best grips for CrossFit that adapt to all athletes and their different levels .

So, what should I take into account when choosing my PicSil grips ?

1.- DEPENDING ON THE MATERIAL OF THE STREETS

To know which streets best suit our needs, it is important to define our priorities in:

1.TOUCH OF THE BAR VS COMFORT AND RESISTANCE

If our priority is feel the bar and the sensation of motion transmission , Phoenix models grips ( made of Pu + Aramid) and Golden Eagle grips ( made with microdiamonds ) They are a very good street option . If on the contrary Our priority iscomfort and resistance , we should opt for thicker and more resistant models such as the F alcon grips ( made of carbon fiber) , Condor grips ( made with synthetic leather) or the new H awk grips ( made with polyurethane + aramid) for use without magnesium.

1.B BASED ON OUR WEIGHT AND VOLUME OF TRAINING

Secondly , there are two factors that are also relevant when choosing one material or another in our PicSil leggings: Body weight and the volume of gymnastic training . If both are high, it will always be better to opt for resistant grips (For example: Falcon grips or C ondor grips in the case of using magnesium. Hawk grips if you prefer not to use magnesium) In addition, it should be noted that this type of grips Highly resistant and with great grip, they have an inner layer called “FOAM” that absorbs and cushions each movement, thus generating greater comfort and greater resistance to the athlete in each wod.

On the other hand, if we are people with a light weight or a medium-low volume of gymnastics , we can feel comfortable and guarantee durability both in the models mentioned above and with other thinner models, which sacrifice some resistance in favor of other notable characteristics, such as a great grip with and without magnesium, and greater sensitivity of the bar in each movement. For example, the Phoenix Calleras , which work with and without magnesium on the bar and allow you to feel each movement on it and, being very resistant, They are not as much as the Condor Grips.

2.- CALLERAS WITH MAGNESIUM OR CALLERAS WITHOUT MAGNESIUM

The eternal dilemma of using magnesium in the box and the solutions we offer from PicSil. All our grips are for use with magnesium , with 2 most interesting exceptions: The P hoenix grips , totally versatile, suitable on the bar with and without magnesium, guarantee good grip in both situations.
The second option, ideal for environments where the use of magnesium is prohibited, are the H awk grips , designed to provide unprecedented performance on clean bars.

3.- STREETS WITH HOLES OR WITHOUT HOLES

3.1 Tracks with holes:
Grips with holes usually have 2 or 3 holes through which the fingers are inserted. A larger hand will prefer three-hole grips and a smaller hand will feel more comfortable with two-hole grips.

Advantages of handlebars with holes:

1.- You can choose whether or not to put your fingers in. This way you will have 2in1. There are exercises that require more contact, such as ring exercises, where it is more advisable to use grips with holes, especially if you are a beginner (although for color tastes, and more and more athletes prefer grips without holes for rings, in this way they speed up the transitions in your wod)
2.- You can make the fold. By inserting your fingers you can make a fold right in the area where calluses form, which will give you greater protection against friction.

Among our models of grips with holes, the following stand out: Falcon grips 3H , Falcon grips 2H , RX grips 3H and RX grips 2H

3.2 Streets without holes:

In grips without holes the fingers are exposed and there is no contact between the bar and the palm of the hand. The palm surface is larger to offer greater protection, as is the wristband area, which is thicker for greater support and comfort.

Advantages of street rails without holes:

1.- Faster transitions. By not having your fingers stuck in the holes, the transitions between exercises are faster, which makes for a more functional workout.

2.- The surfaces of the palm and wrist are wider, and specifically the latter is more reinforced, for greater support, protection and comfort.

Among our models of grips without holes, the following stand out : H awk grips grips , P hoenix grips , C ondor grips , F alcon grips , G olden E agle grips , RX grips

THE BEST STRIPES WITH MAGNESIUM:

FALCON GRIP S :

CONDOR GRIP S :

GOLDEN EAGLE GRIP :

THE BEST CALLERS FOR USE WITH AND WITHOUT MAGNESIUM:

PHOENIX GRIPS:

THE BEST STREETS TO USE WITHOUT MAGNESIUM:

HAWK GRIP S :

Street combinations : 2 better than 1

Our best advice for those who do not want to give up anything and always use the most appropriate grips, and the current trend in the majority of crossfitters is to have two pairs of grips that complement each other and provide us at all times with what we need and expect from them. .

Below are some examples of perfect handlebar combos and our reasons for choosing to have both models:

1.- HAWK + PHOENIX: If you are not a fan of magnesium in your box, the new HAWK from PicSil are the best grips without magnesium . They will give you incredible grip and great durability on the clean bar without fear of a high volume of gymnastic training. The second perfect and complementary pair for these grips without magnesium could be the PHOENIX model, this model provides us with grip on bars with and without magnesium, in addition to allowing us to feel the bar in each movement due to its thickness. The PHOENIX GRIPS grip model is perfect for competition and low training volume, therefore, you can use it competing (where we can find bars with or without magnesium) and train with them days before the competition to adapt the grip and movement. Without a doubt the perfect combo if you are from the “chalkless team”

2.- PHOENIX + CONDOR/FALCON: You love the P hoenix , you like to feel the bar in every movement thanks to its thickness and the freedom it gives you not to depend on magnesium to speed up transitions and , of course , to be able to face bars with and without magnesium guaranteeing the best grip. If you are a person with a body weight greater than 80Kg and/or with a high volume of gymnastic training, it is not advisable to use only the Phoenix grips on a continuous basis. The ideal thing to guarantee the durability of these is to combine them with highly resistant grips on a daily basis with which we will feel the bar less, but we will ensure durability of our CrossFit accessory and of course we will continue to guarantee a good grip. In this case and as a perfect combo for you, we have 2 options. Both very resistant, with great grip and one of the favorites of our athletes: CALLERAS CONDOR GRIP S and CALLERAS FALCON GRIP S , in terms of grip and durability, both are two very good options. In this case, choosing one model or another is a more personal decision. On the one hand, we have the CONDOR GRIP S model , made of synthetic leather and with a feeling of comfort, a “padded” effect from the first uses. Some of our athletes likeRoman Khrennikov or Sepius are faithful to them. Another valid option is the FALCON GRIPS model, made of carbon fiber, which will make the handle feel harder, but with use it adapts 100% to our hand. some of our most loyal athletes to this model are the current Fittest man on E arth Jeff Adler , or the fittest man in Spain, Fabi Beneito , among others.

3.- GOLDEN EAGLE + CONDOR/FALCON: Taking advantage of the fact that we have talked about Silvia García (our beloved Sepius) we cannot forget another star combo, her favorite: GOLDEN EAGLE GRIPS to compete, due to its great grip and transmission in each movement. As with the Phoenix model, its thickness limits us in terms of high volume of gymnastics and the best option to guarantee its durability is to combine these with a second pair of PicSil grips ( it is important to remember that the Golden Eagle grips require magnesium for its correct operation).

The ideal way to guarantee the durability of our Golden Eagle Grip grips is to combine them with second, highly resistant grips. In this case, again we recommend 2 of our star model. Both very resistant, with great grip: CALLERAS CONDOR GRIP and CALLERAS FALCON GRIP

These are some of the multiple PicSil grip combos that we can make to have complete coverage in each wod and competition, but there are many more options that will provide extra value to our inner crossfitter 😉
