Cross-training vs. Powerlifting

What are the main differences between Cross Training and Powerlifting? Both are sports disciplines that have some points in common. Apparently they are the same, especially for beginner profiles, but there are really big differences, although both are related to strength and weightlifting. 

To begin, let's see how each of them are defined. 

Cross-training vs. Powerlifting

Cross Training  

Cross Training is defined as personal training, constantly varied, executed at high intensity. It is a training that combines different sports disciplines that work globally, that is, resistance, strength, flexibility, power, speed, balance, precision and agility. 

All these capacities and skills are developed in each conscious and constant training. 

Powerlifting  

Powerlifting is also known as power lifting. It is strength training and is mainly based on three movements: the squat (back squat), bench press and deadlift (deadlift). 

Each of these movements works a different muscle group. It develops the physical strength of each athlete and obviously increases the muscle development of the body. 

Main differences between Cross Training and Powerlifting  

According to the definitions, the difference is clear. Cross Training encompasses a much broader set of movements and develops other types of capabilities apart from strength. 

Powerlifting is much more focused on a specific objective, while Cross Training is multidisciplinary and the objective is to be in the best possible shape, trying to develop a very complete athlete. 

This does not mean that to develop all the strength and power in powerlifting, the training also applies Cross Training. They both complement each other and that is why they fit together so well. The key is to find the middle point that benefits both disciplines.
