What past WOD has been chosen for 18.5?
During the week, Castro announced that the last WOD of the Open CrossFit Games 2018 would be chosen by the global crossfit community, as was done at the beginning of the competition. Live from the Icelandic capital, the director of the Games explained to us on Facebook Live the three options that we could vote for by leaving a comment: 11.6 (and 12.5), 13.5 and 14.2 .
After two hours of voting, the audience chose that 18.5 would be...
11.6 and 12.5 (with 50% of the votes) 7-minute AMRAP 3-6-9-12-15... reps Thrusters (45kg/29kg) Chest-to-Bar Pull Ups
In fact, the thrusters return in the last WOD of the Open, as tradition dictates. And because the people have chosen it since 14.2 proposed Over Head Squat as an alternative (voted second by 43%).
How to face 18.5?
If there is something that we were very excited about about the 18.5 Live Announcement, besides the voting, it is the Dottir duel . Katrin Davidsdottir, Sara Sigmundsdottir and Annie Thorisdottir announced the result of the vote and went out to warm up this hellish WOD. If you're a Games veteran or a true fan, you've probably already done 11.6. With which parties have an advantage to face it with strategy and even make a brand. These are our tips so that thrusters and C2B don't kill you:
- Clean and fast movements
- Find a rhythm so you don't drown in the longer rounds
- Exhale when throwing the bar and inhale when doing the thruster squat
- Go fast at the beginning but without running too much
It's 7 minutes long, but it will seem like forever if you went too fast at the beginning .
What material do I need for 18.5?
It is more than clear:- Knee pads for Thrusters
- Streets for C2B
- And if you find it necessary, wrist straps to throw the bar above your head without suffering much.
Have you noticed that Annie Thorisdottir uses Azor Grips?
We, yes. Not during last night's live announcement, but in the athlete presentation report. Don't you believe us? Look look...
We are still not responsible for it.
Duel of queens
The Dottirs, Sara, Katrin and Annie, were the stars of last night's event, from their native country, Iceland. It is the first time that the three face each other at the same time in a duel as exciting as 18.5. What have the fittest girls in the world taught us? That in this WOD, it is important to maintain a constant pace, look for good execution of the movement and breathe correctly to perform better. After 3, 2, 1... Go! , the three Viking queens launched themselves onto the bars performing almost synchronized thrusters. Katrin Davidsdottir quickly got ahead of her opponents by adding a couple more reps . But, Annie managed to catch up with her to lead the WOD in the 15 rep round, in the second minute of this AMRAP.
The rest of the WOD, Katrin and Sara fought for second place, although Sigmundsdottir was already showing signs of fatigue stopping between thrusters. The Dottirs were already completing the round of 21 repetitions in half the time, but fatigue was already taking over them. After the last effort in the few seconds of the AMRAP, Annie Thorisdottir took the victory of 18.5 and broke the world record for this WOD with 178 repetitions. Katrin Davidsdottir follows closely with 176 reps , and Sara Sigmundsdottir with 171 reps .
