20.1 The Open Games begin

Last morning from Thursday to Friday we discovered the first WOD of the Open CrossFit Games 2020 . After the four days required to carry out the exercise, we are going to see the world and national classification to discover how things stand after 20.1.

20.1 The Open Games begin

10 For Time rounds with 15min Time Cap
8 Ground to Overhead (43/29kg)
10 bar-facing burpees

Yes, we have all had the same reaction and made the same face after seeing the first WOD of the Open 2020.

It is a WOD of physical and mental suffering that is boring just thinking about it.

But we already know that this is just the beginning and we are clear that those at CrossFit have much more interesting events prepared for us (and more disgusting, if possible).

Live announcement

You already know that this course begins with the new Open modality that we already saw in March/April.

There are very few differences: on the one hand there is the change of dates (that is why we have a double portion of Open this 2019); and on the other, are the live WOD announcements.

We already saw at the beginning of the year that we no longer have global ads with Dave Castro and the elite competing somewhere in America.

Now, Live Announcements are made simultaneously in different parts of the world, at the official competition venues .

For 20.1 , Brazil, France and South Korea hosted the event with their national athletes, in addition to the city of Austin in Texas , where the Iron Game Rogue will take place.

Although it's cool to see Koreans doing CrossFit, it's always more interesting to see Rich Froning and Scott Panchik facing off live.

Result of the duel: Panchik: 9:22 - Froning: 9:59 .

Classification after 20.1

Are already! Everyone has raised their results after suffering doing the 20.1.

Now it's time to see how the Leaderboard looks and we are going to see the Top 3 in the world and in Spain in the men's and women's categories.

Remember that the national champions of the Open qualify directly for the 2020 Games, as does the world Top 20.

In 4 weeks, at the end of the Open, we will therefore know the first finalists of the CrossFit Games 2020.

1. Sara Alicia Fernández Costas (9:33)
2. Elena Carratala (9:45)
3. Oihana Moya (9:50)

Men
1. Javi Bustos Murillo (9:29)
2. Gabi Castro (9:35)
3. Fabián Beneito (9:36)

World Top 3

Women
1. Emma McQuaid - Ireland (7:41)
2. Sam Briggs - United Kingdom (8:01)
3. Sara Sigmundsdottir - Iceland (8:11)

Men
1. Majid Boulmane - France (4:58)
2. Lefteris Theofanidis - Greece (8:05)
3. Cédric Lapointe - Canada (8:16)

What catches our attention about this initial classification?

That the Frenchman, world number 1, has either made a mistake in uploading the results, or has taken 10 red bulls before doing the WOD; or we are facing the new crossfit prodigy.

Given the times of the men's elite, which is around eight minutes, we dare to say that it is a mistake and that the organization will surely ask for a review of this video.

We are also delighted to see our Sam Briggs at number 2 of this first WOD.

If we continue scrutinizing the board, we see that the best in the world are among the top 50.

But we must trust since this is only the beginning. Many have well-planned strategies to earn their ticket to the 2020 Games.

Some bet everything on the Open, others on the Sanctionnals. Some will seek to be No. 1 in their country, others to enter the Top 20 of the elite or even compete as a team.

All tactics are valid, so we just have to see how the board evolves over the next four weeks.

Next Friday the 18th, we will know the 20.2 that will be announced live from Australia in a duel that will face Matt McLeod and Khan Porter .
