The best championships before the Open 2018

If you are one of those who can't wait for February to find out how your favorite athletes are doing this year, here is a list of 4 championships where you can see them in action and compare them with their rivals. For most great athletes, the season ends after their time at the Games in Madison. From then until February they go through different phases from doing absolutely nothing, to volume and hypertrophy phases, basics, rehabilitation, etc... some of them take advantage and participate in competitions all over the world. These are some of the best global competitions that we will see in the next two months.

2/3 December - The Fall Series Throwdown (Italy)

This weekend in Vigevano, Italy we will have a 2-day competition with some of the best athletes in Europe.

Manila Pennacchio, 30, Italy

31st in the Meridian Regional 2017. An athlete who is having a powerful preseason, being seen in the main European championships.

Rita García, 29, Spain

After finishing 11th in Europe at the 2017 Open, he was about to reach the Games with The Unit ACF team.

Adrian Mundwiler, 24, Switzerland

The Swiss has had a very intense preseason after being injured at the Meridian Regionals in his attempt to return to the Games. We have seen him making the podium in all the competitions he has participated in (Swiss Alpine, Alpha Games, Elfit Games, German Throwdown,...). Will you repeat this weekend?

December 13-16, Dubai Fitness Championship

If you want to see the Games in December, you can't miss what happens in Dubai. The competition with the biggest prizes attracts great athletes year after year. For 4 days they participate in really tough and demanding tests only for the best (last year a certain Matt Fraser won). Who to watch out for in this competition? To all of them, because the level is one of the best on the planet. These are just a few of those who will be there:
  • Alex Vignault, Canada
  • Björgvin Karl Guðmundsson, Iceland
  • Lukas Esslinger, Switzerland
  • Elliot Simmonds, UK (to follow this year)
  • Cody Anderson, USA
  • Jason Smith, South Africa
  • James Newbury, Australia
  • Alec Smith, USA
  • Annie Thorisdottir, Iceland
  • Laura Horvath, Hungary
  • Kara Webb, Australia
  • Kari Pierce, USA
  • Thuri Helgadottir, Iceland
  • Kristin Holte, Norway
  • Sam Brigss, UK

January 11-14, The Wodapalooza , Miami (USA)

The largest Fitness festival in the world. To give you an idea, last year they had 25,000 spectators during the 4 days of the event and more than 1,500 athletes. It is a real party with live DJ's, beach parties, seminars and a huge shopping area. Many Games athletes usually go but practically all of them go as a team, so don't expect to see them at 100%. More than a championship to see the level of your favorite athletes, it is an opportunity to see them compete as a team. Last year the "pique" between the Smith brothers (Ben, Alec and Dane) and the Panchik brothers (Scott, Spencer and Saxon) was one of the most fun to watch.

January 27, The European Championship , UK

In the United Kingdom there have always been great championships, some of them have been disappearing or changing their name and format. One of those is the European Championship held in Colchester. Although on the men's side we only have the Swiss Adrian Mundwiler, it is on the women's side where we have good athletes to follow closely.

Samantha Brigss, 35, UK

Just Sam Briggs. Winner of the 2013 Games, she has been a fixture in the world Top 10 for many years, even this year when she entered the +35 category we saw her win an event in Madison.

Emma McQuaid, 27, UK

She has been on the verge of going to the Games for 2 years, 6th in 2016 and 7th in 2017 and is one of those that is called to qualify this year with the new Regionals format.

Laura Horvath, 20, Hungary

Last year she surprised everyone at Meridian Regionals by getting a 7th place at just 19 years old, this year she could not improve that position, finishing 11th but showing signs that she may be called for great success.

We are not going to miss any, and you? Who are you looking forward to seeing in action now?
